The : The large majority of pmr patients will be completely controlled by this dose of prednisone. Immunosuppressive medications such as Methotrexate can be added to control the inflammation. The main question to answer, is whether or not there are other causes for the ongoing pain, such as giant cell arteritis which would require a higher Prednisone dose, or neck osteoarthritis or shoulder tendonitis/burisits, etc., causing the continued pain in those areas. You likely need further evaluation of the cause of your pain.

PMR: Given your young age & poor response to Prednisone it is extremely unlikely you have polymyalgia rheumatica(pmr). The key characteristics of pmr are that patients are almost always over 60 years old & those with pmr, respond dramatically to corticosteroids with rapid near to complete elimination of symptoms. I recommend seeing a rheumatologist to clarify your diagnosis.
