Variable : Variable diplopia may be due to optic neuritis (ms), myasthenia gravis, or vascular insufficiency to the nerves controlling your eye muscles. I recommend seeing an eye doctor when you experience the diplopia.

Diplopia: Diplopia has many causes and you need further evaluation by an eye doctor. Diabetes, hypertension and other systemic disease can cause microvascular damage causing damage to the nerves to eye muscles and resultant diplopia. Myasthenia gravis should also be ruled out.
