IT : It depends on the preparation of advil (ibuprofen). For most of them, it is fine to crush or dissolve the pills. Many people that can't swallow pills have to do this. However, a couple of preparations are enteric coated or have timed releases, meaning the coating is meant to not dissolve until the medicine reaches the intestines. In these pills, it is not a good idea to dissolve or crush them as it messes up their function, but is probably not dangerous. For other medications, she should really read the labels to make sure it is ok to dissolve them or break them up. When in doubt, ask her doctor.

Could be a problem: Dissolving drugs before ingesting can accelerate the drugs absorption, so you get the effect quicker. Some drugs are purposely coated to delay absorption so as not to irritate the esophagus or stomach. If you don't know whether or not a drug can harm the esophagus or stomach, i would not recommend grandma's technique. If she continues her method, advise her to drink lots of water.
