Swallowing pills: Advil (ibuprofen) and other otc meds are designed to be swallowed with liquid, and dissolved in the stomach and small intestine. Taking them without water in a high acid environment, ie your esophagus can cause irritation and possbly ulcerations. I would take 2 TBS of liquid anti acid for immediate relief, to help heal the area in your esophagus. Talk to your health care provider for further evaluation.

Hello, I was taking an Advil capsule and as I was swallowing felt the water going down the wrong pipe. Since I was mid-swallow I kept going, and then coughed a bit after it was over. Is it possible that I aspirated the pill too along with the water?
