Specific Phobia: Yes, this can be a form of "specific phobia" - situational type. Although this may sound very uncomfortable, the usual treatment is exposure therapy. If the symptoms are extremely debilitating, a medical doctor can prescribe medications, as necessary. I would speak to a mental health profession (possibly through your work - eap?) for clarification.

Cardiovascular?: Breathlessness and chest tightness in a 50 y/o male deserves a medical evaluation to rule out any problems with the cardiovascular system. Better safe than sorry. Anxiety can produce any number of physical symptoms that mimic physiological disorders. Schedule an appt. With your doctor. S/he has spent many years in training to diagnose and treat your symptoms. Whatever the cause there is help.
