A member asked:

Can a blood transfusion from a healthy patient help a patient with sever rheumatoid arthritis? and is anyone trying to do blood transfusions for this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Highly unlikely.: This is unlikely to help a rheumatoid arthritis patient, unless they also have severe anemia/blood loss. Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease that is characterized by inflammation of joints due to many immunologically mediated processes that transfusion would likely aggravate rather than alleviate. Plasmapheresis might help this as it would remove things like rheumatoid factor but is not done.
