Sinus Perforation: Many of the roots of the upper molars and premolars are very near the maxillary sinus. Only a very thin layer of bone and sinus tissue lining separate them. When there is an infection in the root apex of these teeth it can perforate into the sinus and drain. If the drainage from the sinus does not improve as the infection heals over a week after surgery. Go back to the dentist who did the surgery.

Sinus Perforation: Bleeding through the nostril is commonly seen during sinus surgery or if the sinus membrane is torn from surgery, infection, etc. This should not be of concern, as the membrane will heal. Decongestants may help to reduce the swelling of the sinus membrane and any associated bleeding.
