Growing pains: This is a question that brings families into my office weekly. The short answer is it can be difficult. The long answer is "growing pains" is a diagnosis of exclusion. There are myriad conditions that must be ruled out before a child's pain can be assigned the diagnosis of benign growing pains, and a lot depends on the patient's age and symptoms. To be sure, see a pediatric orthopaedist.
