The bacteria: Gas gangrene is a bacteria that produces gas under the skin. The skin feels like in has bubbles under it. Necrtizing fascitis can be gas gangrene or some other bacteria that doesn't produce gas.

Life threatening : They are both life threatening illnesses.The bacterial causes are different, but generally they both need surgical intervention and antibiotic therapy.
