Several things: If the itching starts fairly soon after you tried on the shoe, it's probably an allergic reaction to something in the shoe, like a die. If the itching is associated with a flaking rash and begins a couple of days later, you may have picked up a fungus (athlete's foot). Needless to say, always wear socks when trying on strange shoes.
