Athlete's Foot: The space between the two smallest toe is the mot common location for tinea pedis or athlete's foot. This is because these toes receive the most pressure from shoes and tend to retain moisture. It generally starts as a fungal infection, but as it worsens, the skin can crack, allowing bacteria to enter as well. Thorough drying, powdering and antifungal creams help. If not, see a podiatrist.

Athlete's Foot: This sounds like an athlete's foot infection which is caused by a fungus. No, you don't have to be an athlete to contract this. This may have been picked up at a local pool, gym mats, hotel room, community shower, etc. This is often treated with a topical antifungal medication and in severe cases an oral antifungal. A secondary bacterial infection may also be present and this is a more serious.

Yeast or Fungus: Although white and itching between toes is more consistent with a yeast, you have reddness and itchy, therefore it may be fungual. In either case, apply iodine to dry the area and provide a hostile environment for either. Washing good. Without improvment over 10 days, see local podiatrist who may also have to rule out a soft "corn, ". This usual doesn't itch, but hurts.
