A member asked:

What are some ways to treat a tumor in the knee and after being diagnosed as enchondroma or chondrosarcoma?

Dr. Brian Lawenda answered

Specializes in Radiation Oncology

Surgery : Depending on the extent of the cancer (enchondromas are benign versus chondrosarcomas which are malignant), pathology, stage, limb function, and overall health status this decision will likely involve surgery. Surgery can range from excision (limb sparing) to amputation, depending on the above details. Radiation therapy (and sometime chemotherapy) may be used in addition to surgery.
