Depends...: A soft tissue mass must be evaluated by a surgeon experienced in recognition of sarcoma and other tumors of the extremity. A CT scan may be necessary, followed by fine-needle or core-needle biopsy. The type of biopsy IS important, as a sarcoma requires proper technique to avoid difficulty in complete excision later.
