Nerve Compression: The carpal tunnel is the part of the wrist at the base of the palm that contains the flexor tendons of the hand and the median nerve as they travel from the forearm to the hand. Swelling in this space can cause median nerve compression leading to carpal tunnel syndrome. The symptoms are numbness, tingling and pain.
