Varies: Recovery from carpal tunnel syndrome varies based upon the individual and surgical technique used. In surgery, the transverse carpal ligament is divided, which can lead to activity related pain around the thumb, this is almost always temporary, you may want to cut back your activities for the short term until you are doing better. If you dont get better soon, sometimes therapy can help.

Not really normal: It is not normal to have these symptoms after surgery. However, a small but significant number of patients develop tendonitis after this surgery. Please make an appointment with your Doctor for further evaluation.
