In a few cases: This is a topic of continued discussion and the answer is too long for such limited space. In a nutshell, there have been situations described where patients have had "subtle neurocognitive changes" that are detected on "neurocognitive testing". Many close to the patient may not notice. Others may report subtle mood changes. Keep in mind, the word subtle.

Open Heart surgery: The odds are slim but in some cases cognitive deficits may occur as a result of being under anesthesia for an extended period. This occurs less now as most cardiac surgeries are accomplished more swiftly.
