Not from heart: If you had a coronary bypass then the sharp pains to the left of the sternum may be due to the harvesting of the Internal mammary artery which requires cutting the pleura on either side of it. The pleura is highly innervated and cutting the sensory nerves produces a numbness over the left chest for many patients and then "pleuritic " pain as the nerves grow back. See your Surgeon if worried though
