A red clump: It is usually a red clump although the size, texture and color may vary. Why do you ask? If you have an questions, you should call your own dentist. A dry socket typically produces severe pain two to three days after the extraction, when there was less pain or discomfort previously.

Dissolves: Usually you will not notice the blood clot as they tend to dissolve more than just pop out. Dry socket is a general term for any failure in the blood clot from forming or healing well. If you have severe pain 4-5 days after an extraction, usually that is a dry socket. Your dentist should be able to treat it within a few minutes. Avoiding smoking and alcohol can help prevent a dry socket.
