No.: A pinched nerve does not cause shortness of breath. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan is the best way to diagnose a pinched nerve. A pinched nerve in the neck region can cause neck, shoulder, upper back, and arm pain. In the lower back can cause low back, buttock, and leg pain. It can also cause numbness, tingling, or weakness of the arms or legs.
