Gum disease/pyorrhea: Periodontal disease is a disease of the gums and the underlying bone. It affect 80% of the adult population and is the most common reason tor tooth loss. It is usually due to a chronic infection in the space between the teeth and gums that causes the bone around the roots of the teeth to dissolve thus loosening them more and more until ultimately they come out.
