Pain killer and rest: Your dentist will give you pain medication and anti-imflammatory drugs to contol the pain and swelling. In some case, you will get antibiotics too. For your part, just follow the post-op instruction and have a good rest. Ice pack the day of surgery will help. Mouth rinse and heat treatment days after surger also help.

Many things: Day one : ice 20 mins on , 20 mins off -- all day. Rest, lots of fluids. Ibuprofen 400mg 4 times/day day 2; same as day 1 except no ice. Day 3: same as 2. You might use the pain meds that were prescribed if you need them. If you are still in significant pain after 3 days -5-6 out of 10 or greater-, you need to see your oral surgeon. Discomfort normal for 5 - 7 days.

Post op regimen: Begin using ice packs on the outside of your face adjacent to the extraction sites on and off every 15 minutes until bedtime. Take advil, motrin, aleve (naproxen) or what your dr. Has prescribed asap. Keep your head elevated. Avoid strenuous activity. Follow all directions. Eat soft foods. Drink nutritious cold liquids. Occupy yourself with something you enjoy that is relaxing. Take a nap. Feel better soon.
