Is an orthopedic surgeon the only kind of doctor who can take care of a wrist injury?

Dr. Raymond Raven answered

Specializes in Hand Surgery

Orthopedic Hand: Just as internal medicine (im) doctors are trained to diagnose/treat various medical conditions, orthopaedic surgeons are trained to diagnose/treat various muskuloskeletal injuries and diseases. An im doctor will refer you to a cardiologist for a complex heart problem because they are best suited to treat it. Similarly, hand surgeons are best suited to treat complex conditions of the wrist.
