Rashes: Rashes are common after simple viral illnesses but can occur during a group a strep infection & need specific therapy. If the rash has a sandpaper feel & started around the genitals, armpit & inner elbow it is more likely to be strep & need rx. If more generalized, pinpoint red dots, scattered over trunk & legs it is more likely viral. Either way, if you are concerned, have baby seen.

Viral v Strep: If there is a fever, sore throat, decreased fluid intake, a rapid strep test may be helpful. The rash may be viral and resolve as the viral illness resolves.
