A member asked:

If i have an operation to remove an avm, what are the chances it will come back?

Small chance: An avm in the colon is usually removed by resection so that the lesion is entirely removed. If the avm is treated by laser ablation then there is a chance that residual vessels may enlarge.

Depends: Depends on the size and also if it was completely excised. If not totally resected it can come back.

Low: Most surgeons will perform a blood vessel study called a catheter angiogram to confirm complete avm removal after surgery. As long as this is negative for residual, the chance of recurrence is extremely low.
