Complex question: Surgery for AVM often depends on location, compression, prior bleeding or seizures, and risk of future strokes or hemorrhage. Some AVM's do affect memory circuits, and successful treatment may effect improvement. Best to do pre-operative neuro-psych testing, and assess current effects.
