Topical steroid: Avamys is fluticasone furoate. In the us Veramyst contains the same topical corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are anti-inflammatory. They do no have the same effects or side-effects associated with androgens, muscle-building drugs commonly referred to as "steroids". Avamys helps control the allergic reaction at many points. Side-effects - pain, bleeding - are due to the irritation of the jet spray.
