Maybe. Maybe not.: Pain medicine is a wonderful thing. There are big, small, deep, shallow, etc., wounds after a pilonidal abscess is drained. Whether pain medication is needed also depends on the patient and the dressing changer. One can ask the doctor how likely pain medication will be needed, and how soon before the dressing change should the pain medicine be taken.
