Sure: Your dentist needs to know what you want as a final result. By discussing treatment with you ahead of time, you will know what to expect.

You should: Most dental cosmetic procedures can only be performed by a dentist. Some states allow non-dental businesses to provide teeth whitening services. I have asked questions at some of these places and not been impressed with their knowledge of what they are doing or who may not be a good candidate for it. I highly recommend you visit a dentist for any cosmetic dental procedure!

Yes!: Your dentist may be highly qualified to perform the cosmetic dental procedures you're interested in, but your dentist will first need to make sure that you are of sound oral health-no decay or periodontal issues. Than photos, models, discussion of your expectations and possible outcomes. Some cosmetic solutions are simple, while others may require a multi- disciplinary approach. Check all options!

Always best: The best thing to do is to discuss your options before making a decision. Often we will do a "wax-up" of what your teeth could look like. This can also be done with computer imaging using "smile vision" . This way , you have a good idea of the result and this can be used as aguide during treatment. Good luck.

To get good result: If you want a result that you are likely to be pleased with a consult is a way for you to tell the dentist what you want changed. Without that information the dentist is only guessing as to what you want done.

Definitely: If it is for a larger or multiple procedures, i would get at least two consults. Try to explain to the dentists through photos and dialogue as much as possible of what your expectations are. Their are usually multiple solutions and then you can choose from the best of them. Good luck.

Confused?: I'm not sure what cosmetic dental procedures you are referring to. There is no dental specialty in dentistry know as cosmetic dentist. Find a dentist whom you trust and ask to have him\her show you some photos of completed cases.

No: If you are going to a different dentist for your cosmetic procedure, you don't need to consult your current dentist. Make sure both are checking for healthy gums and bone structure!
