Clean and cover it.: Wash with soap and water, rinse well. Cover the wound with a dry clean dressing. Seek help if fever, chills, swollen glands redness or heat occur.

Off-load : Keep your foot off-loaded from any damage and protect the gash area. If you're already seeing a doctor for the gash, follow their instructions. Also, keep a healthy diet as your body will need extra nutrients as healing is an exhausting process for your body. Good luck.
