Get diagnosed first: There are a number of things that can cause pain in the feet. This is a very nonspecific symptom. I recommend that someone with pain in in the foot that travels to the leg should be seen by orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon for a definitive diagnosis so that appropriate treatment can be started. Determine cause: Without evaluating you possibilities include: 1) tendonitis. Many muscles found in the leg end in the foot. 2) a nerve compression - this would feel like burning, shooting, stabbing or electricity. 3) the possibility of a clot should stay in the differential as you mention calf pain. A podiatrist or foot and ankle orthopedist should be able to make the diagnosis and help you.

Get a diagnosis: Your pain could be as a result of many different things. A thorough history and physical exam and possibly some laboratory and radiology exams are needed to determine the exact cause. Causes of pain may include: trauma (fracture, sprain, arthritis), infection, metabolic conditions (gout), musculoskeletal or biomechanical abnormality and neurologic conditions (neuropathy).
