Many causes: There are many causes. From carpal tunnel, to cubital tunnel to cervical disc disease, diabetes, hypothyroidism, perineural tumor (cyst), severe tendinitis causing local nerve compression, ms and late pregnancy to name a 'handful.' . If only some versus all of the digits are involved and a good medical history is taken, the differential diagnosis can be narrowed down.

nerve compression: The most common cause of numbness and tingling in hands in otherwise healthy individuals is nerve compression. The most common type of nerve compression is carpal tunnel syndrome. That being said there are a number of other causes as mentioned by by colleague. I recommend that you consult an experienced hand surgeon for further evaluation.
