A member asked:

I am suffering from anxiety (sometimes bad) and seeing a therapist for it, but wondered what harm it could have on the baby (i am 26 weeks pregnant).?

Little.: The main risk of anxiety disorders to pregnancies come from 1. Medications given to treat the anxiety, and 2. The threat of some mothers wanting to harm themselves when they have other associated psychiatric symptoms. Having anxiety alone isn't known to cause a problem with pregnancy.

Anxiety & pregnancy: During this time of intense growth and neuronal migration & connections, your baby's brain is vulnerable to many things such as toxins, infections, illicit drugs, & medications. High maternal anxiety can also affect fetal brain development, so getting help is wise.
