"trauma": Most types of hernia mesh are designed to scar into the adjacent tissue. Therefore, it can be quite traumatic to remove mesh, and even more difficult to (re)repair the hernia w/o mesh. Ironically, if the mesh is infected, it tends to come out quite easily.
