A week: As long as you aren't too sore or are bleeding, braces can go on soon after. Make sure you are healing free of infection. If you had teeth other than wisdom teeth removed, then complications are extremely rare. Maybe give yourself a week or two.

As soon as you can: Typically we wait about 7-14 days after extractions in order to begin tooth movement. We usually place the braces prior to the extractions, but don't put in a wire. Then once the teeth are removed, the wire is placed and you are on your way!

Braces on before!: After decades of being an orthodontist, I have come to the conclusion that it is better to put braces on before teeth are extracted. 1. I have never had a dentist or oral surgeon remove the wrong tooth (it does happen, especially since orthodontists use a different numbering system then the rest of the dental world). 2. If after removal, a patient "disappears" for a while, i still have control.
