Rare: Scaphoid fractures are extremely rare unless related to significant trauma. If you have been in a accident it is possible. These fractures are also difficult to see on standard xrays. Further studies such as MRI of ct are typically required. If you are concerned see an orthopedist for further evaluation.

Yes: It is possible if you injured your wrist by falling on your outstretched hand. With a scaphoid fracture you would have pain in your wrist on the side near the thumb.
