It depends: Many times scaphoid fractures are associated with pain along the thumb side of the wrist. But there are some patients who only experience minimal to no discomfort - everybody presents differently.

Scaphoid fracture: pain and a positive x-ray? Sometimes the X-ray my look or be read as " negative" The pain can be severe but there are many times that the pain is annoying and mild and comes on gradually and in fact ignored, this is why many non displaced scaphoid fractures are not diagnosed at the time of injury, especially with a so called negative xray. additional X-rays, special views and MRI can help dx
