Gum disease?: Inflamed, irritated gums are the commonest cause for bleeding. Do you floss, water pic, etc? Gagging while brushing is not uncommon-keep head forward, pant like a dog if needed(keeps tongue forward, and elevates back of throat-less likely to gag). Use a soft bristle brush, mild toothpaste. Still bleed?-see dentist. Bleeding or bruising elsewhere? See md.

Not unusual gor gag : It is not unusual to gag when brushing back of tongue. The bleedin is probably from your gum tissue. See your dentist to make sure you do not have gum disease.
