Volvulus, I presume: As volvulus, twisting of bowel loop, leads to intestinal obstruction and cutting off blood supply to the involved bowel loop, immediate surgery is required. Malrotation of midgut, a congenital condition in infants, however, can be managed by elective surgery.

Not always operation: Malrotation in itself is not always operated upon. Malrotation can occur by itself but can be part of a series of other defects like heterotaxy. The concern for malrotation is a band that prevents the gut from working normally. Correcting malrotation with a ladd's procedure can be offered. Talk with your surgeon. Discuss your concerns. It may be offered minimally invasive.
