Cancer screening: An endometrial biopsy is done prior to a hysterectomy in women with abnormal uterine bleeding to evaluate for endometrial cancer.

Endometrial biopsy: An endometrial biopsy is performed to determine the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding. If the bleeding is caused by a cancer, a gyn oncologist will do the surgery, but if the cause is not cancer, a gyn will do your surgery.
