A member asked:

Approximately how long does a total hysterectomy surgery last?

45 min to 2 hours: Of course, there are too many variables to answer accurately, and the patient shouldn't worry because they will be asleep the whole time! the time depends on the type of hysterectomy (abdominal, laparoscopic, or robotic), the size of the uterus, and any scarring or adhesions in the abdomen (often not know until the procedure is started).

Depends: This depends on the reason for the hysterectomy, the method used, and the skill of the surgeon. Cases with large fibroids, a lot of abdominal scar tissue, or endometriosis take longer, especially if done with a robot or laparoscopic approach. Sometimes removing a large fibroid through the vagina or small incisions is the most time-consuming part of the surgery.

Varies: Depending on the route of the surgery, it may take as little as 30 to 45 minutes or as long as 3 to 4 hours.
