Not for long: The best way to deal with kidney stone pain is by treating the kidney stone. Lithotripsy is one such treatment. Acute pain from a kidney stone can effectively be treated with opiates such as vicodin although frequently more powerful intramuscular injections of opiates such as Meperidine (demerol) are needed to control the acute pain.
