If this is a new: Tear, then resting until relatively pain free and swelling if any has gone down is advisable, but not bed rest. Bed rest is rarely recommended b/c of the risk of blood clots. Old tears don't need to be rested. However you need to be able to do your job safely in a more confounded space than most people. Eventually though you should get the tear fixed to avoid arthritis later in life.
