A member asked:

Do pulmonary embolisms show up on chest x-rays?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Ct angiography is the best test for the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. A ventilation-perfusion scan is also useful, especially in a patient that can't tolerate the iodinated contrast used in a cta. Cxr can help in diagnosis of other causes of chest pain and sob but will not show an acute pe.
