Rest the jaw: Restrict your diet to only soft foods that do not require chewing for 3 days. Take ibuprophen every 4-6hrs. Practice keeping your lips together and lips apart at all times so your teeth don't touch.

Self care: Self treat with soft diet, jaw exercises, massage, heat/cold, OTC pain meds. Avoid clenching or grinding of teeth. Symptoms persist: see TMJ specialist.
