A member asked:

I have a history of dvt , respond poorly to birth control, and i was recently diagnosed with endometriosis. is an iud a possibility instead of bc?

Dvt: A history of deep venous thrombosis is a strong contraindication to the use of oral contraceptives. Iud is a viable option as these are placed by gynecologist i believe consultation is appropriate. Iud has complication rates of there own.

Yes: A Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud can be an effective treatment. In general progestin hormones can help improve endometriosis pain without risking another blood clot. But you definitely should be treated by a reproductive endocrinologist to have a short term and long term plan at a young age.
