Copper IUD: You may want to discuss the copper IUD with your doc. It doesn't involve hormones and can give years worth of reversible protection. It is pricey & uncomfortable to insert but that fades and you get less than 1% failure rate. Condoms would appear to be your other choise.

Barrier.: Barrier contraception would be the best option in this context. As you stated, you need to stay away from anything that has any hormonal functionality.

Dvt: I agree with you that you should not be using something hormonal as that may increase the risk of further episodes of deep vein thrombosis. A conventional IUD should be considered, and I would recommend that she discuss this with your gynecologist.
