Ice, Massage: What is causing the muscles to swell? Does it occur after work or exercise? You may be straining the muscles, in which case, an anti-inflamatory medication (ibuprofen or naproxen) can be used along with ice and massage. If it is not related to an activity, then you need to have it evaluated by your doctor.

Ice-Massage-Therapy: Use ice, massage and stretching. You may need to be evaluated to make determine what is causing the muscle swelling. If there is no underlying problems, then ask for a referral to a good physical therapist to help break down the initial swelling and develop a home stretching program to maintain.
