A member asked:

Is it possible for people with schizophrenia also have visual hallucinations?

6 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Possible but unusual: Auditory hallucinations are more common in addition to ideas of reference, thought broadcasting, thought insertion and paranoia. However visual hallucinations can accompany the auditory hallucinations as part of the experience. Other causes of psychosis should be ruled out as visual hallucinations are more common in other psychosis.

Yes.: Yes. Absolutely. Schizophrenics have an altered state of reality and perception. It is quite possible for them to have the postive symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, and frank psychoses. Typically these symproms respond best to medications.
