Dr. Andrew Ho answered

Specializes in Psychiatry

Medication and rehab: Psychiatrist can help find treatment to resolve hallucinations. In addition, she will need to regain skills and motivation to return to education, work, and social activities. Family members such as parents can help with appointments and coordination of care. Try to go with her to psychiatric appointments. Having family member who is positive and supportive makes a big difference.

Get her help: The best thing is for her to see a board certified psychiatrist on a regular basis. Hallucinations are a part of schizophrenia and can be successfully treated with various medications including some newer ones which have fewer problems with weight gain. Good luck to both you and her.
