Usually facility...: "pills" offer a constant, controlled dose of medication that will be appropriate for the condition. It requires a simple prescription and an up to date set of emergency drugs in the office. "gas" requires the facility to have plumbing, equipment, monitoring and emergency drugs. Preference may simply be deeper control of anxiety.

Many reasons: There are distinct differences between gas and pill. Most dentists don't use gas because they think it is reserved for kids or it gets in the way. More and more dentists are using the pill because people are afraid of going to the dentist and because they can make more money and get more dentistry done.

Usually not: If the doctor knows what he or she is doing, then the procedure should run smooth and there would be minimal discomfort afterwards.

Depends: Not all wisdom teeth are created equally. Some are angled, straight or even sideways. It depends how the procedure went, the patient (medical issues) and how your pain tolerance level.

Easier: I use both pill and nitrous gas forms of sedation. I prefer tablets because i find the nitrous just ads more apparatus to the treatment room and some patients don't like the feeling of something tightly around their nose.
